Renovation 329 homes Jagershoef, Eindhoven

Aluminium Award 2009 In May 2007 Hermeta Gevelbouw BV began a renovation project in Eindhoven bij replacing window-frames and doors of 329 homes. This project was completed towards the end of 2008. The original window-frames were replaced by aluminium ones in wood profile. Energy efficiency The present day energy efficiency standards have been met completely. The aluminium profiles have been fitted with an extra-wide insulation zone resulting in high thermal insulation. In addition to this windows and doors have been fitted with energy efficient glass. Durability/ life cycle thinking To increase durability our client – Stichting Woonbedrijf SWS Hhvl- opted for a pre-anodised coating. It is clear that the choice of aluminium profiles was also influenced bij their durability and low cost of maintenance.

Contemporary design The architect (VDLP) was commissioned by our client to design contemporary features while maintaining the original characteristics – e.g copying the original wooden profiles in aluminium- in recognition of the period ( the sixties of the last century). Thus VDLP has chosen to use modern-day techniques, for instance by deciding on hinges which are fully concealed so as not to spoil the clean lines of windows and doors. Socio-economic impact The renovation has given the houses an impressive face-lift; instead of rundown houses the estate now radiates vitality. From the very beginning occupants were fully committed tot and involved in the renovation project. An example of this is that occupants were free to chose the colour of their doors as well as the position of the glass therein.
