About the Aluminium in Renovation Award 2009
The Aluminium in Renovation Award running throughout 2009 will consist of 8 national competitions followed by European contest to reward the best use of aluminium in renovation, a sector where the qualities of the light metal are often underestimated.

The national competitions will provide the nominees for the European Competition.
The winning buildings should illustrate that to upgrade the environmental performance of residential or utility buildings, aluminium is THE sustainable solution.
2 categories - 2 awards
In the 2009 European Aluminium in Renovation competition, AWARDS will be awarded in 2 categories:
RESIDENTIAL, including for example:
- Private houses
- Private collective housing/apartment buildings
- Social housing: houses & apartments
NON-RESIDENTIAL, including for example:
- Utility buildings: offices, commercial, industrial
- Public buildings: town hall, museum, train station
- Historical buildings
Extra prize € 5.000,- for Energy Efficiency
In addition on European level the JURY AWARD and a cash price of € 5.000,- will be given for the project with the most significant contribution to energy efficiency across the two Award categories. At national level, additional EXTRA PRIZES could be given for other categories for instance:
- Doors, windows & Curtain walls
- Cladding and Roofing
- Infra Structural Constructions
The following criteria shall be taken into account in the assessment of the entries:
- Significant use of aluminium
- Energy efficiency
- Life cycle thinking
- Contemporary design
- Socio-economic impact
- Added value to the original building
